Moreover, she looked into illicit cannabis operations in Siskiyou County. In this capacity, she worked closely with the Sheriff’s Office to expose ties to organized crime abroad and human trafficking used to procure workers. Her reporting shed light on how these illegal grow sites caused severe environmental destruction, including soil contamination, water theft, and inhumane conditions for laborers.
Besides her investigative work, Bruinsma has forged strong ties with state and federal leaders. She landed one-on-one interviews with U.S. Senator for California Adam Schiff and worked extensively with Congressman Doug LaMalfa on matters like transgender participation in sports, agriculture, water rights, and redistricting.
