Brownlee works as a co-anchor of NBC4 News at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. on KNBC, NBC4 Los Angeles. In addition to that role, he reports on Life Connected stories, which tell stories of diversity and communities coming together to pay it forward. He also co-hosts NBC4’S Black History Month Special, a half-hour program that shares stories of excellence and inspiration in the Black community.
Brownlee is involved with NBC4’s trademark Clear the Shelters pet adoption drive, the Kingdom Day and Juneteenth parades, as well as other community events. He approaches journalism with the right balance of reporting both breaking news and heartwarming stories.
Before serving NBC4, Brownlee was a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor for My13News. He also worked as a fill-in anchor and general assignment reporter for the KCOP/KTTV duopoly in Los Angeles. He spent 3 years as a general assignment reporter at CBS2 in Los Angeles.
Brownlee was fascinated with the business from a young age. Both of his parents worked in TV, and he used to practice reading news scripts his father brought home. Later, he launched his career in radio promotions before transitioning to TV in 1995 as a general assignment reporter for the NBC Affiliate in Yuma, Arizona. He then climbed ranks to an anchoring position at the station. Following his tenure in Yuma, Brownlee worked as a reporter for Real TV, a syndicated video magazine show.
Over the course of his career, Brownlee has received a Golden Mike Best Sports Reporting Award. He was also a member of the news team that won a Los Angeles-region Emmy Best Daytime Newscast Award for the NBC4 News at 4 p.m. in 2020. He serves as a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
