Pat moved from WCBS-TV, where she worked as a general assignment reporter for three and a half years, to NBC 4 New York in April 1996. There, she covered breaking news topics in the tri-state region.

The award-winning COVID-19 coverage by NBC 4 New York, which featured Battle’s reporting and anchoring as a key element, was recognized in January 2021 with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for “creating a 360 view in real time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and thorough reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.” The duPont Award, given by Columbia University as well, is widely acknowledged as the Pulitzer Prize of the broadcast, documentary, and online worlds.
