Rosendale moved from KSTP-TV (ABC) in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, where he was the weekday 9 PM and 11 PM anchor and assignment reporter, to NBC 4 New York in February 2012. In 2000, he initially became a member of the NBC family at WPTZ-TV (Hearst/NBC) in Plattsburgh, New York, and Burlington, Vermont, where he hosted the 5 PM, 6 PM, and 11 PM newscasts. Rosendale covered the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics while working for WPTZ-TV.

Gus, a native of Long Island, reported from his hometown of Long Beach on Superstorm Sandy and its catastrophic aftermath. Rosendale received an Edward R. Murrow award, a National Emmy, and a New York Emmy® for her work on NBC 4’s team coverage of Sandy.

The Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award will be given to Rosendale in January 2021 for “creat(ing) a 360 view in real time of the coronavirus pandemic, with courageous and thorough reporting on the virus’s explosion in New York City.”

Rosendale’s anchoring and reporting were a crucial part of NBC 4 New York’s award-winning COVID-19 coverage. The duPont Award, given by Columbia University as well, is widely acknowledged as the Pulitzer Prize of the broadcast, documentary, and online worlds.
