LaGrone’s career has so far led him to newsrooms in Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina. He worked as a reporter/anchor at WBBH in Fort Myers, a morning anchor at WPBF in West Palm Beach, a nightside reporter at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, and he began his reporting career at WFXB in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
LaGrone covered the conflict in Iraq and Kuwait for a month in 2003, working with the 82nd Airborne Division. He spent two weeks in the Sunni Triangle’s centre, where attacks on American troops were just beginning to pick up. He led the audience into one of Saddam Hussein’s palaces and went on a mission with the military to explore an underground bunker containing Iraqi intelligence.
LaGrone has been recognized for his writing and investigative work with three Associated Press awards. Paul received a regional Edward R. Murrow award in 2007 for his research that turned up child pornography on laptops donated to charities.
LaGrone received an Emmy nomination in 2004 for “Best Spot News Coverage” for a story in which he and his photographer assisted in locating a missing youngster. Paul has created and produced videos that criticize politicians for their statements. In 2015, his political journalism received an Emmy nomination.
LaGrone’s career as a journalist has taken him to significant news events across the nation and around the globe, from covering tropical storms in Florida and North Carolina to reporting from the Tallahassee centre of the 2000 presidential election controversy to airing from the front lines of the Iraq War. Back in Tampa, where both sides of his family reside, Paul is happy to be home.
