Palombo works for KCAL CBCS Los Angeles as an anchor and senior reporter. Most recently, he worked in a White House press corps, broadcasting Trump’s administration and as a DC Bureau chief. While in Washinton, he broadcasted each aspect of Donald Trump’s impeachments from inside the White House and at the Senate trials. He was present at the Capitol and delivered live reports during the January 6th, 2021, attack.
While covering the president, he also provided on the COVID-19 disaster, reported on the election and swearing-in of President Joe Biden, and broadly broadcasted the Russia Investigation. In 2018, he won an Emmy for broadcasting the political reaction to the Stoneman Douglass Massacre.
Previously, he worked for KTVU in San Francisco as a political analyst, chief investigative reporter, and evening anchor. During his stint there, he broadcasted the race for the White House in 2016 including the campaign trail from the Iowa Caucuses, the Republican and Democratic National Conventions, and the swearing-in of the 45th president.
Palombo’s investigative reports in California shed light on a healthcare disaster within jails. The report also showed instances of deceased and injured inmates, as well as a significant financial scandal in public transportation. Additionally, he highlighted a statewide traffic issue that endangered the safety of numerous individuals. His broadcast resulted in improved healthcare standards and substantial settlements. Further, new public payment protocols and regulations, and a significant overhaul of California’s road construction practices were implemented. For his work, he won two esteemed Murrow Awards for investigative journalism and three Emmy Awards, recognizing his exceptional work.
Before working in San Francisco, Palombo gained national attention for his investigative reports in Miami, Florida. Also, he won 9 Emmys for his investigative reports, breaking news, broad reports of local politics and government, and broadcasts of punishment and crime. He was also the lead reporter broadcasting numerous tropical storms and hurricanes including Hurricane Sandy. Palombo traveled across the country for a couple of big stories including the Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting, the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage, the Baltimore Riots, and the Ferguson Unrest. He served as the first journalist to provide live coverage of the initial gay marriage in the state moments after its legalization.
Palombo arrived in Miami after anchoring the nation’s initial national newscast broadcasting LGBTQ+ matters for CBS News. From CBS’ headquarters in New York, he worked as anchor of the overnight news, The CBS Morning News, and Up to the Minute. Moreover, he reported from Wall Street for MoneyWatch. He traveled across the nation broadcasting various big stories like the passage of Proposition 8 in California and the Financial Crisis of 2008.
Palombo joined CBS News after working for KENS in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to that, he reported for KCBS and KCAL. Aside from his work with CBS, he broadcasted politics, anchored, and held investigation duties at KRON in San Francisco, KNXV in Phoenix, and WHBQ in Memphis. His journalism career started after he received his degree from college.
