At this location, she produced a number of special reports on the Royal Air Force, focusing on pilots and their training at RAF Odiham before their assignments to Afghanistan.
When the local television station MyTV Portsmouth was forced to lay off employees, she was elevated to news editor and then joined the channel as a reporter. She switched to Oxford’s neighborhood TV station, Six TV after Portsmouth TV discontinued transmitting.
Her reports nationally broadcasted on ITV2 and came in second place in the local Royal Television Society awards. Byrne submitted an application for the opening created on Wales at Six after Lucy Owen left to join the main news show of BBC Wales, Wales Today, in November 2007.
