Haeberle tied the knot with Sarah. The couple has two daughters, including Vivian, and is excited to explore Chicago. Vivian was born on February 16, 2016, and is 10 years old. On February 17, 2016, he shared a photo of them at the hospital on Facebook, captioning, “We can’t call this breaking news because she arrived last night. But it is a developing story and one that will require years of investigative work to chronicle her milestones. I couldn’t be happier to announce my newest assignment – my daughter, Vivian…” When he has time to spare, he is with friends and family or is most likely swimming, running, and cycling. Recently, he qualified for and completed the Boston Marathon. Though he is native to Louisville, he has friends and family here in the Chicago region.

Haeberle works as an investigative reporter with NBC 5 Investigates at WMAQ NBC 5 Chicago. He came to NBC 5 Chicago after working as the chief investigative reporter at WBNS-TV in Columbus, Ohio. While in Columbus, he won two National Headliner Awards for investigations that prompted change and 5 Emmy Awards, including 4 for his investigations. He also broke a story of careless controls inside a local hospital, and a doctor who was accused of prescribing large doses of fentanyl medication for critically ill patients under his care. Before Ohio, he worked as a fill-in anchor and investigative reporter at WISH-TV in Indianapolis. There, he was nominated for 9 regional Emmy Awards.
Haeberle spent a decade anchoring and reporting the news in his home state of Kentucky, where he served both WDRB-TV in Louisville and WTVQ-TV in Lexington. While at WDRB, he won three Emmys for spot news coverage of a fatal test drive in 2009, a crime report on a Boy Scout troop comprising of inmates in 2012, and human interest/feature stories in 2013. At WTVQ, he interviewed family members of a commercial jet crash that claimed the lives of 49 people, which later earned the station a National Edward R. Murrow Award. Also, he broke stories as part of a political team on the ex- governor’s employment scandal.
Haeberle holds the most pride in his investigative work, which has caused a change. He spent years covering the abuse of children in congregate care facilities in Ohio. That report prompted increased inspections and, later, the shutdown of one problematic facility. Child advocates have mentioned his work in a national campaign, which later became a backbone for Congress considering legislation to extend protections to those in care.
Haeberle looked into failures within the Ohio parole system, helping shed light on how the state failed to efficiently track ex-prisoners despite wearing GPS monitors. That report prompted the formation of a governor’s task force to investigate the inadequacies. State lawmakers also changed state law to make tougher sentencing guidelines for people sentenced of violent crimes. That series earned Emmy and Regional Murrow awards.
Haeberle has received two National Headliner Awards, a couple of regional Emmys, and a regional Edward R. Murrow award during his broadcasting career. He also worked with a news team that won a National Edward R. Murrow Spot News Award for reporting on a commercial plane crash.
