Sklenar dropped out of school after two months and went to California, where he adopted his mother’s surname for acting purposes because he was tired of people mispronouncing his name. He did odd jobs in Los Angeles until he was signed by a manager at the age of 20. He made his professional film debut in 2011 with a role in Cornered. The next year, he starred in the TV series Dating Rules from My Future Self.
Sklenar starred in Chance in 2014, NBC’s Truth Be Told in 2015, Hunky Dory, Bell Donna, Fall into Me, Temple, and FOX’s New Girl. Sklenar starred in 1923, where he played the role of Spencer Dutton from 2022 to 2025.
