Cecchetto works as an evening news anchor for CBS 8 News. In this role, he anchors the 5 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts. His first involvement with CBS 8 News was back in 2003, when he primarily worked as a morning reporter.
During his first tenure at CBS 8 News, Cecchetto “grew up” as a reporter by covering major stories, such as the 2003 wildfires and the Duke Cunningham scandal. In 2006, he left CBS 8 News to take a job as an evening anchor at KMTV in Omaha, Nebraska.
Cecchetto landed his first on-air job at KOBI, the NBC affiliate in Medford, where he served as a weekday reporter and weekend anchor. There, he realized what deadline pressure was, given that he shot, wrote, and edited his own stories. After this, he worked as an anchor at KXXV, the ABC affiliate in Waco, Texas, before coming to San Diego.
Cecchetto’s passion for learning new things and storytelling drew him to journalism, but the relationships he has made both inside the station and out in the community have grown to mean even more to him. He says that this job has allowed him to meet incredible people and impact his community in ways he could only dream of.
Aside from his broadcasting job, Cecchetto participates in a couple of causes. In this capacity, he feels fortunate to help by giving his time and energy to make a difference in San Diego. For example, he has raised awareness for domestic violence, helped children with cancer, and fought Alzheimer’s Disease.
