George kick-started his career in 1983 in Waco, Texas, at KWTX during his senior year in college. After completing his undergraduate studies, he worked at KWTX for another 4 years before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he worked at KOTV. In Tulsa, he had the chance to research with meteorologists from the University of Oklahoma and finish Doppler training at the National Severe Storms Laboratory.
George moved to El Paso, Texas, from Tulsa and began serving KVIA. While in El Paso, he took graduate-level coursework in atmospheric sciences. Following his time in El Paso, he moved to Minneapolis, where he served KSTP. There, he had the chance to use the very best forecasting tools and equipment of that period. Additionally, he provided coverage for life-threatening weather each spring and summer, major snow, ice, and blizzards, as well as being exposed to bitter air masses.
