Stott has worked as a global security director since June 2011. In this capacity, he delivers consultancy in field client protection, evacuation planning, and risk mitigation services. Since May 2016, he has worked as a speaker and expedition leader.

From February 1995 to June 2011, he served HM Forces in Tier 1 Risk Management. He was previously a soldier in the Special Boat Service (SBS). His military career ended due to a severe knee injury after a parachuting accident in 2011. After the accident, he swiftly moved to the private security sector.

Initially, he wanted to be a fireman but a comment from his father(“The army? You wouldn’t last two minutes!” ) made him change his mind. Motivated by that comment, he moved ranks from a commando, then an instructor on the commando course, and eventually, a member of the Special Forces.

In May 2018, he completed the entire 14,000-mile length of the Pan-American Highway (PAH) on a bicycle gaining two world records in the process; the fastest person to cycle the length of South America and the fastest cycle journey on the Pan-American Highway.

Over the course of his journey, spanning 14 countries, Dean cycled an average of 10 hours each day. Dean rode for 17 solid hours during the final stretch, covering 340 miles in one session. Clocking in at 99 days, 12 hours, and 56 minutes, Dean destroyed the former world record by 17 days, making him the first person to accomplish this remarkable journey in under 100 days.

Cheating

According to dailymail.co.uk, Stott was accused of cheating by using two bicycles, one better suited to flat landscapes and the other with lower gears to help during hilly stages. They also said that Storr had used fake papers to get through the border quickly. Stott refuted the claims and said that he suspected the claims were made by disgruntled former members of his support team.
