Freeman works as a co-host for FOX13’s Good Morning Memphis. When he joined the station, he worked as a weekend anchor before moving to the early morning segment of the Good Morning Memphis team in 2005. After 5 years, the station made history with the debut of its 10 o’clock newscast, with Ernie as solo news anchor.
Freeman has covered local disasters such as the flooding in Nashville, the destructive tornado in Smithville, Mississippi. He kept his Midsouth audience in the know with live reports from Washington during President Barack Obama’s first inauguration.
Freeman’s investigative reports have uncovered the roots of the foreclosure crisis, revealed rural speed trap schemes. Moreover, he identified scofflaw drivers responsible for millions in unpaid parking fines in Memphis, and highlighted gaps in Tennessee’s oversight of sexual offenders. He also co-created an ongoing series, aired on FOX-13, about race relations in Memphis, called Memphis in Black and White.
After Freeman’s 2-year evening shift came to an end, he returned to Good Morning Memphis in April 2012. He also worked in different regions such as Ohio, Illinois, Atlanta, Baltimore, Nashville, and Chattanooga.
