Leigh works for WFTS as a news anchor and reporter. She made the switch to Good Morning Tampa Bay’s weekend morning anchor in 2022. These days, she reports three mornings a week and steps in to cover for the traffic anchor as necessary. In the spring of 2017, she began working for ABC Action News in Tampa. She progressed from reporting on the weekends to reporting Monday through Friday.
WJXT employed Leigh as a multimedia journalist prior to joining WFTS. In 2009, Leigh started her career in news by working as an intern at two stations: one in Tampa, Florida, and another in Jacksonville, Florida. She got her love for reporting and her knowledge of how a newsroom functions from there.
Leigh began working for Siouxland News in 2012, following her graduation from the University of South Florida, in the midwest town of Sioux City, Iowa. She anchored and reported the morning news there for two years. She was a regular stand-in for the evening news desk. However, she felt that returning to sunny Florida would be a fantastic next step for her career because she missed her home state. In Jacksonville, she was fortunate to secure a second job at the same station where she completed her internship, Channel 4.
For her article “Shoot, don’t shoot” about police shootings, Leigh earned her first Emmy. Additionally, she took home the Best Multimedia Journalist in a Medium-Sized Market AP Award. A journalist with multi-media skillsets is one who can write, edit, film, and appear on television.
Leigh was eyeing Tampa after three years in Jacksonville. As a reasult of the articles she produced about the shortcomings of the state’s unemployment system during COVID-19, she attained recognition with two Emmy awards. Her work on the unemployment system earned her another AP award, and she was named the best multi-media journalist in a large market.
