Sanders was born to Garrett Anne and Hosea Sanders Sr. He was named after his father. Both of his parent passed away, his mom passing in 2020 and his dad in 2003. Hosea was a veteran who served in Korea. He and Garret were married in 1956, the same year she graduated. Garret studied at Peake High School and Henderson State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She served as a nurse for 38 years in the Arkadelphia area, with her main focus on cardiac care and emergency room operations.
Sander grew up in the U.S. with his four siblings, Delton Ray, Barbara Ann, and Vincent Bernard. Unfortunately, two of his siblings, Barbara and Victor, passed away.

Additionally, he covers entertainment for ABC 7 Chicago and other ABC network-owned stations that operate in key cities across the U.S. In addition to that role, he assists in hosting local shows, New Year’s Eve special, “Countdown Chicago”, and the biggest African-American parade in the nation, ABC 7’s Bud Billiken Parade.
Sanders is among the faces of the ABC 7 Great Chicago Blood Drive in collaboration with the American Red Cross of Illinois, and also the station’s yearly food drive campaign collection for Greater Chicago Food Depository and Northern Illinois Food Bank. Since he joined the station, he has taken on multiple major roles such as news anchor, entertainment reporter, and program host.
Before joining WLS ABC 7, Sanders worked at KCBS in Los Angeles, California, for 8 years, from 1986 to 1994. Also, he anchored and reported for KFDW in Dallas, Texas, for 6 years, from 1980 to 1986. He spent 1 year at KARK in Little Rock, Arkansas, as an anchor and reporter. During his career, he has won 17 Emmy Awards for his journalism work and over a hundred awards for community service.
