Her investigation of paper automobile dealer plate loopholes prompted an Assembly bill that changed California’s license plate laws so new cars could not be on the road without a license plate.

During her journalism career, Katsuyama has broadcasted North Bay wildfires, anchored breaking news coverage during the initial hours of the Boston Marathon bombing, and was gassed while reporting on Occupy protests. In addition, she flew with the Red Barons in an open cockpit plane over Lake Superior and provided live reports from Tokyo two days after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami crisis linking with Bay Area residents in Japan.

Before arriving in New York, she worked at the ABC affiliate in Dayton, Ohio, WDTN, as an anchor and reporter. Her career started when she worked for the NBC affiliate in Duluth, Minnesota, KBJR. Before embarking on her journalism career, she worked for the Hiroshima YMCA Medical College in Yonago, Japan as an international relations coordinator. She also worked as an English teacher in Japan through the Japanese Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Education’s JET Program.

Aside from journalism, Katsuyama loves volunteering for community organizations like the Japanese American Citizens League, the Northern California Cherry Blossom Queen Program, the Nichibei Foundation, the National Japanese American Historic Society, and Self-Help for the Elderly to list a few. Since 1999, she has worked as a member of the Asian American Journalists Association
