Johnette worked as an assistant professor of communication and media studies at Louisiana Tech University and a faculty member in psychiatry and behavioral health at LSU Shreveport, where she conducted research on unhealthy technology use and addiction, prior to returning to broadcast journalism.
Additionally, Dr. Magner worked as a faculty member in Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at LSU Shreveport and an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Studies at Louisiana Tech University before returning to broadcast journalism. While at these institutions, she conducted research on unhealthy technology usage and addiction.
She has held a variety of positions in the communications industry, including those of Publisher of SB Magazine, Co-Host of “Mondays with Johnette” on KEEL Radio, Member of the Editorial Board of The Shreveport Times, Vice-President of Public Affairs for Ketchum, a global PR firm, and Executive Director of the Shreveport-Bossier Business Alliance for Higher Education (SBBA), an organization she founded with Dr. Phillip Rozeman to support
Dr. Magner has held a variety of non-profit board positions throughout the course of her extensive time in the area and state. Johnette now serves on the boards of Council for a Better Louisiana (CABL) and Ellevate Louisiana, a group whose goal is to support and develop the state’s female leaders.
