Knight was born to Canadian parents(Marlene Putnam and Allan Knight) in Boston, Massachusetts. He has five siblings including Allison, Sharon, David, Christopher, and Jordan. He and Jordan were bandmates in the boy band, New Kids on the Block. His father is an Episcopal priest from Meaford while his mother is from Dunnville, Ontario. In a statement on the New Kids on the Block blog on January 27, 2011, he apologized that he didn’t appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption “I am gay,” stating that he was not aware that it was required of him as a gay public figure. He also said that he’d like to keep his private life private contrasting that his fellow band members don’t discuss their private lives and that he too should get the same treatment.

New Kids on the Block
Knight alongside his younger brother Jordan, Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, and Danny Wood were members of the boy band, New Kids on the Block. Between 1986 and 1994, Knight and the band sold over 80 million records worldwide. He was the oldest member and the first to leave the band in 1994 during their tour for Face the Music album, before their official split.
In the spring of 2008, he reunited with four other band members. On September 2, 2008, they released their seventh album after 14 years. They confirmed their reunion officially by performing live together on the Today Show on May 16, 2008. In March 2024, they announced that their eighth album, Still Kids, would be released on May 17, 2024. The NKOTB Magic Summer 2024 Tour starts in June 2024.
