Kollar’s most memorable work was the emotional story of an Indianapolis native playing in the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship, including his coaches, family, and the game. That story had everything Kollar lives to tell, including aspiration, ambition, and pride. Besides his journalism career, he is a four-time Michigan Master Angler and a former All-State Track & Field athlete. He also volunteers weekly at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Additionally, he obtained the Eagle Scout rank after spending over 12 years with the Boy Scouts of America.

Kollar’s passion for journalism began in high school, when he wrote for his hometown paper, The White Lake Beacon, in Muskegon, Michigan. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he began his career at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a digital producer and live reporter, then was promoted to a reporter in February 2019. In 2021, he moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he worked as a reporter at WXIN Fox 59. After this, he worked at WXIN as a traffic reporter from March 2022 to November 2023 before moving to Charleston, South Carolina.

Throughout his career, Kollar has been awarded and recognized for his notable work. He was awarded the 2025 STAR Award for Personality of the Year from the South Carolina Broadcasters Association. That organization also gave him First Place for Best Weather/Science Reporting – TV for his story, The Battle Beneath: Lionfish, Legends, and the Julionfish Festival.

Kollar was second best in the Political and Election category at RTDNAC’s 2024 Local News Excellence Awards for his investigative article examining ads in Congressional District 1. In addition, in 2021, he was honored with an Edward R. Murrow Award for his coverage of the Grand Rapids riot. Moreover, he was nominated twice for regional Emmy Awards.
