Sabine was raised in Truckee, a small mountain town in northern California near Lake Tahoe, with her two sisters, including Kimberly Maughan. She learned skiing when she was two, as her family was very involved in the ski industry when she was a child. Sabine tied the knot with Scott Crawford in September 2005. She posted a wedding photo of them on her Instagram account on September 24, 2024, and wished him a happy 19th anniversary. Kathy Sabine Career
Sabine works as the chief meteorologist on the Weather Impact Team at 9NEWS. Additionally, she works as the lead forecaster on the 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10 p.m. newscasts Monday through Friday. In 2020, the Colorado Broadcasters Association (CBA) granted her its 2020 Best Meteorology Award. She also won the 2018 Heartland Emmy Best Meteorologist Award. She has won seven Heartland Emmy Best Meteorologist Awards, five CBA awards, and two AP awards, including for news writing.
Sabine’s forecasts can be heard on KOSI 101.1 and 98.5 KYGO. She also produces a daily forecast for the Fort Collins Coloradoan newspaper and writes a daily weather forecast on 9NEWS.com. Further, she holds the Seal of Approval from both the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and National Weather Association (NWA).
Besides working as a forecaster, Sabine has worked as a news anchor, reporter, producer, and writer. Moreover, she has worked off-screen as a camera operator, chyron operator, floor director, audio technician, and tape operator.
Sabine initially studied veterinarian science in college but later switched her major to journalism. After receiving her journalism degree, she launched her TV career at the NBC affiliate in San Luis Obispo. Next, she worked for ABC in Santa Barbara, Fox in Salinas/Monterey, and ABC in San Jose, California. Additionally, she has substituted on the Today Show in New York for Al Roker during the week and chief meteorologist Janice Huff from WNBC in New York on the weekend edition around three dozen times.
Sabine has won storm chasing and best weathercaster awards from the Douglas County Newspaper organization in multiple editions. Westword and 5280 have nominated her favorite news personality” and “best weather anchor” many times. Besides broadcasting, Sabine gives her time to animal shelters and local charities. She loves visiting classrooms, where she shares her knowledge of weather and the environment with children. She hopes to inspire young girls to pursue a career in math and science. Also, she works as a foundation board member for Teen With A Dream, a youth cancer firm. Additionally, she is involved with the National Western Stock Show, local 4-H and FFA organizations, and the Colorado Horse Council. Sabine sits on the Board of Directors for the Colorado Horse Council and the Colorado State Fair Foundation.

Kathy Sabine Skin Cancer
Sabine discovered that she had skin cancer during a routine dermatologist visit. Her dermatologist discovered a suspicious age spot on her nose, thinking that he saw basal cell carcinoma. He requested a punch biopsy for the next week and diagnosed that she had a slow-growing basal cell carcinoma, which had a low probability of killing someone, as opposed to melanoma, one of the fastest-growing cancers that can metastasize quickly. Further, he informed her that she would undergo two surgeries.
During surgery, the doctors found a third cancer between her eyes, and thus, they did a second Mohs surgery. Cartilage was taken from her ear to replace the missing cartilage on her nose. They used skin from her forehead and skin to cover the wound. Following the surgery, she spent four weeks in the house to limit exposure to the sun. Additionally, she publicly shares her experience with skin cancer to raise awareness and encourage others to undergo regular skin examinations.
