She is a familiar face to many in Kansas City, as she previously worked as the Chief Meteorologist in the Kansas City area for 17 years until her career took her east and west along Interstate 70. For some time, Horner went to St. Louis, Missouri, every week to cover weather for KMOV and KSDK. Moreover, during this time, she was taking care of her terminally ill father.
After her father’s death, Horner accepted the position of public affairs director for the Kansas Adjutant General in Topeka, Kansas. During her time there, she became the spokesperson for the Kansas Division of Emergency Management and the Kansas National Guard. She was then invited to join the First Alert at KMBC 9 News in 2018.
Being a member of the American Meteorological Society’s Broadcast Board was one of her career highlights. She founded “Seal of Approval Consulting” to assist new meteorologists. In addition to that, she wrote a children’s book named Brainstorming: A Creative Guide to Help Parents and Children Through Severe Weather. Further, she has been voted as one of Kansas City’s most influential women.
