Leone first stepped foot in a newsroom in Omaha, where she was a prompter operator at the age of 19. She ultimately worked her way up to become an overnight photographer and multimedia journalist. Following her tenure in Omaha, she worked as a reporter and weekend anchor in Des Moines, Iowa.
One of Leone’s most impactful stories she covered in Des Moines was about a Native American family on the Meskwaki Settlement whose family members had been missing for almost 10 years. Her reporting prompted the FBI to reopen the case into those missing family members. That report earned her a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
Leone strongly supported Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Central Iowa’s “I am Enough” mentorship program while she was in Des Moines. She has always been passionate about supporting and uplifting kids in her community, a cause she holds close to her heart as she and her six siblings were all adopted.
