Curtis has served the station for over 20 years, debuting in the Valley in June 1980. He served the station until 1987, when he left for Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his pregnant wife. While in Minneapolis, he worked as the sports director at the ABC affiliate there, KSTP. Moreover, he provided coverage for the Minnesota Twins’ run to the 1987 World Series.

After spending three years in the Twin Cities, Curtis moved to St. Louis, where he was the main sportscaster and play-by-play voice for St. Louis University basketball. With dreams of returning to Phoenix with his family, he returned to the region in 1995 when he rejoined 12News as a sports anchor. In 2004, he transitioned to the news desk.

Throughout his journalism career, Curtis has covered various major stories, including the 1996 Summer Olympics, where he saw Muhammad Ali run with the torch and got the opportunity of carrying the torch himself through Phoenix before the 2002 Salt Lake City Games. As an avid sports fan, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ 2001 World Series win occupies a special place in his heart. He has also broadcast two World Series and five different Olympic Games, including Sochi.

Curtis has contributed to 12News’ political coverage, covering Presidential primaries to inaugurations. He traveled to the country’s capital after President Donald Trump won the elections in 2016. After 2 years, he returned to the capital as a field anchor of the special broadcast of the funeral of Senator John McCain. He recently provided coverage for Becoming Rachel, which follows the journey of a Valley resident transitioning from a man to a woman.
