Rivera’s first big live story at ABC 7 Eyewitness News was covering the funeral and procession of Paul Bauer in 2018, a police commander who was shot while chasing a criminal. He spent more than three hours on-air covering as Bauer was honored by the city and its residents.
Before joining WLS ABC 7, Rivera worked as a weekend morning news anchor and political reporter for WTSP-TV in Tampa, Florida. There, he delivered six hours of consistent coverage of the Pulse Nightclub shooting in nearby Orlando.
During his tenure as WTSP’s political reporter, Rivera interviewed Vice President Mike Pence regarding Russian interference while co-moderating a fiery congressional debate, and covered Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton’s campaign rallies.
