Growing up in a rural area of southern Indiana, where he frequently saw storms from his bedroom window looking west, his love of the weather and meteorology began at an early age. He contemplated studying meteorology in high school but ultimately decided to take an art scholarship at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia.
He moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to take a job as a doorman at a posh seaside hotel. Michael attributes his experience working as a doorman, a unique and entertaining profession, to giving him the guts to pursue a career in broadcast meteorology. He relocated from the warm state of Florida to Indiana’s Valparaiso University.
He got the chance to work as an intern for renowned Chicago meteorologist Tom Skilling while attending Valpo and participating in the school’s storm-chasing squad. Since 2005, Michael has felt at home in Tornado Alley thanks to his broadcast meteorology work. Michael, a three-time Emmy Award winner, has been predicting the weather in Tulsa and Green Country since 2008.
In 2013, he was a member of a team that earned the National Murrow Award for their coverage of the EF-5 tornado that hit Newcastle, OKC, and Moore. Michael is an enthusiastic storm chaser and storm photographer who has received the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval.
