Dodsworth was previously married to Jonathan Wignall. They had tied the knot in August 2002. Ruth Dodsworth Abuse and Stalking

Jonathan Wignall, her ex, is a businessman who worked for the Escape nightclub in Swansea and an annual dance music festival in the city. He was sentenced to three years for stalking and coercive and controlling behavior, as well as to another simultaneous 9 months for stalking. Also, he was given a lifetime restraining order against contacting Dodsworth or their children and was banned from attending her place of work.

Wignall subjected Dodsworth to almost a decade of coercive control and domestic abuse. For example, Dodsworth revealed that he used to call her up to 200 times a day and demand that she leave work to eat lunch with him, as well as delete contacts from her phone. Moreover, he threatened to take his own life and would take every penny of her salary, granting her exactly £3 for a Tesco meal deal when she asked for lunch money. He also took out loans and cards in her name, which ruined her credit score.

Dodsworth also shared that once her kids warned her not to go home because he might kill her. He caused a fractured rib when he pushed her in front of family members on one occasion. She said it took her several years to fully understand that she was enduring abuse, and it was her children’s concern for her well-being that made her realize her ex-husband’s behavior was abnormal.

In October 2019, she finally called the police, and he was arrested. After his arrest, it was revealed that Wignall had placed a tracking device on her car, linked to an app and a laptop computer. In March 2021, he confessed to a charge of coercive and controlling behaviour and stalking over a nine-year period.
