Soo-young began his acting career in 1998.His initial TV appearnce was on a cookinh show when he was still a student in college. Next, he starred in the film, Summerime in 2001. Further, he had supporting roles in TV shows such as Successful Story of a Bright Girl, Save the Last Dance for Me, and Lawyers of the Great Republic Korea.
Moreover, he attained a leading role in 18 vs. 29, Seoul 1945, and Bad Couple. From 2008 to 2010, he worked as a member of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency as part of his compulsory military service. Following his discharge, he rejoined TV in 2011 with the films, My Princess and Ojakgyo Family.
In 2013, he joined the reality/variety program, Real Men where male celebrities visit army bases and encounter daily routines of military life. Also, he played the role of a detective chasing a fugitive in Two Weeks.
On 15th March 2022, he donated ₩100 million to the Hope Bridge Disaster Relief Association alongside Park Ha-sun. They made the donation to assist those who received damage from the huge wildfire that started in Uljin, Gyeongbuk and continued to spread to Samcheok, Gangwon.
