Ohmer was born to Donald and Sofia Ohmer in 1956. They had five children counting Ohmer. Sofia was born in Bulgaria and is a citizen of Austria. During World War II, she and her family were interned by the Nazis. After the U.S. military freed her and her family, she moved to the U.S. where she met her husband, Donald. At the time, Donald worked as a soldier for the U.S. Army. Ohmer grew up in Carmel, Indiana. Further, Ohmer’s grandfather worked as a Michigan motorcycle officer in the 1930s.

After being involved in the 1992 Los Angeles riots, he left the LAPD. Later, he joined Simi Valley Police Department where he became a motorcycle officer. In 2003 and 2005, he won the Reserve Officer of the Year award. He credits the US Army for his discipline and work ethic that stimulates his acting career.

Part-time, he worked with the Veteran/LEO Liaison for Tampa-based SOF Missions. It is a nonprofit firm that assists veterans bearing with PTSD and the suicide epidemic.
