Pitman tied the knot with her husband, Cody, on June 25, 2010, as shown in a YouTube video posted on July 20, 2010, by KMBC’s official channel. In the video, she was explaining the reason for her absence at KMBC, stating that she was getting married. The couple has 4 children, including 3 sons and one daughter.

In 2016, Pitman’s son caught Pompe disease, which is where the body does not produce enough of the enzyme that breaks down glycogen, or sugar, that feeds the muscles; later on, the glycogen builds up and causes death. This inspired her and her husband, Cody, to start a nonprofit called “Gabriel’s Gale,” which raised money for awareness about the disease. In addition, in 2020 their daughter was diagnosed with the same disease. Aside from work, Pitman enjoys taking photos, listening to all angles in the perfect podcast, and reading good books.

Her journalism work earned her recognition with two Kansas Association of Broadcasters Awards and three Emmy nominations.

At the start of the pandemic, Pitman reported from her home, connecting with others in the community. For instance, she reported about a woman from Lawrence, Kansas, who recycled broken plastic pieces and created artwork outside to brighten the neighborhood. In addition, she covered a director of a senior living center who stayed with their residents 24/7 with the staff during the first months of the pandemic.
