She made her film debut in Rachel Ward’s Australian short drama, Martha’s New Coat in 2003 at the age of 10. Further, she had her feature film debut in the American disaster film, Into the Storm (2014). She made her directorial debut on the seventh season of Fear the Walking Dead with the episode “Ofelia” in 2022. Further, she began her Hollywood career at the age of 18.
Additionally, she guest-starred in the drama series McLeod’s Daughters in 2006. Also, she voiced Lee in the animated short film, The Safe House. Developed by Leila Gerstein, the series is based on the novel dubbed the same by Alexis Schaitkin. The series follows the mysterious death of a young woman during a utopian Caribbean vacation. Her death causes a distressing ripple effect that ultimately pulls her surviving sister into a savage pursuit of the truth.
The series is narrated through various timelines and viewpoints as it tackles the story behind the disappearance and death of the girl. Originally, Victoria Pedretti was to play the lead as Emily, however, she left the series citing creative differences. Debnam will work alongside her fellow actors and actresses including; Josh Bonzie, West Duchovny, Jayden Elijah, Michael Park, Bre Francis, Betsy Brandt, and Kenlee Anaya.

In the dystopian science fiction series, The 100, Debnam guest-starred in the role of Lexa during the series’ sixth episode of its second season. Lexa is the commander of the allied Grounder clans and is depicted as a sensible leader and strong warrior. Affected by the murder of her previous girlfriend, she deems love a weakness.
Lexa later began showing romantic feelings for Clarke Griffin(Kass Morgan). Even so, Lexa prioritizes her people even at the cost of Clarke’s trust. A significant figure of LGBTQ+ representation in fiction, Lexa is considered one of TV’s most interesting and complex female characters.

Beginning in the series as a teenager, Alicia struggles with her family situation and plans to leave the city for a new life. This was before facing the slow collapse of civilization due to a zombie outbreak.
She starred in the series from season 1 to season 7. Additionally, she directed the series episode: “Ofelia.” For her portrayal of Alicia, she earned Saturn Awards for Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series nominations in 2017 and 2018.
