Bill Walsh is an American working in the field of meteorology as the chief meteorologist for WCSC Live 5 News. He came to the station in June 1993 and has served for over three decades. Before his tenure at WCSC, he worked as a chief meteorologist for WCIV for 6 years.

Janet was a morning traffic reporter in the mid-80s for WCSC radio, also serving as its continuity director. She was featured on later parts of the morning shows at WXTC, WEZL, WXLY, WIWF, and WIWK. Her most recent position was with Kirkman Broadcasting, and she is now retired from radio.

Walsh received his high school diploma before enrolling at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1980. In 1986, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Mass Communications and Meteorology.

In 2008, he joined the USAF Air University with a focus on National Security Studies and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Military Operational Art and Science in December 2010. He is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Meteorology and Atmospheric Sciences.

Bill Walsh Career

Walsh works as the chief meteorologist and executive producer for Live 5 News. He loves the Lowcountry because of the people and the mild weather. Before his tenure at WCSC, he worked as a chief meteorologist for WCIV for 6 years. Moreover, he was a staff meteorologist at WLNE in Providence, Rhode Island, for 2 years and at Rollins New England Cable NEWSVISION 2 for 1 and a half years. He contributed to The Weather Channel and CBS’s “This Morning” segment.

Some of his most memorable assignments include covering the Naval deployment to Bulgaria, the news assignment to South America, Israel, and Italy, the Air Force deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, and hurricanes, especially Hurricane Hugo.

Besides his broadcasting career, Walsh served in the United States Coast Guard and is a licensed boat captain. In addition, he worked as a Lieutenant Colonel in the USAF Reserve of the United States Special Operations Command. Additionally, he was a public affairs officer and weather officer for the U.S. Navy Reserve. He has also written a book called The Umbrella Option and Red Carpet Ransom.

Walsh has served his community by serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, U.S. Special Operations Command, and U.S. Navy between 1993 and 2017. Due to this, he obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel serving in the 315th Airlift Wing at Charleston Air Force Base, South Carolina.

Walsh was an active member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities, working as an executive board member. He was also involved in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program and led Live 5 Weather Classes in schools.

Walsh contributed to the Project Impact, which entails community hurricane planning. In addition to that, he is involved with Veterans’ Hospital, the Datastreme Teacher Educational Project, Kids’ Fair events, the Civil Air Patrol, and the U.S. Naval Reserve.
