Johnson co-anchored the 4 p.m. news from Washington, D.C., with Michael Brownlee in the days ushering the presidential inauguration in 2017. That same year, she served as a contributor to an NBC4 Investigative Team story about the countrywide opioid epidemic. Known for her health and science reports, she mermorably went to West Africa’s Sierra Leone in 2011 to broadcast maternal and child health issues.

Because it was caught so early, her medical team determined she did not require chemotherapy. Instead, her post-surgery treatment plan focused on radiation treatments. Following radiation, she was prescribed a daily hormone blocker pill designed to prevent breast cancer from returning. After taking the medicine for 8 years, it triggered her rare, 1% to 2% side effect of endometrial cancer in May 2024. She announced her endometrial cancer diagnosis in August 2024 via an Instagram post.
Johnson noticed symptoms in May 2024, leading to a swift diagnosis and surgery a few weeks later. She then began six rounds of chemotherapy in late 2024. Her journey included a brief ER hospitalization due to low white blood cell counts and severe chemo-induced neuropathy. She underwent her 6th and final round of chemotherapy in February 2025. She officially returned to her regular reporting duties on the NBC4 LA News Desk on February 10, 2025.
