Ten years ago, Mills started his career in journalism after earning his degree from UCF’s Nicholson School of Communication and Media. His profession has now brought him to Columbia, South Carolina, Augusta, Georgia, and Louisville, Kentucky. A regional Edward R. Murrow Award was given to a collection of reports that Chad compiled regarding school buses that were hazardous and prone to fire in Columbia.
In Louisville, Mills received numerous regional Emmy Awards as well as a Murrow Award for his coverage of Breonna Taylor’s killing and the demonstrations that followed. While there, Chad’s reporting also uncovered a legal loophole in which some mentally incompetent offenders were able to escape receiving therapy as well as jail time. This reporting contributed to a state law change in 2021.
