During her career at NBC 4 New York, Avalos has provided coverage for numerous of the Tri-State’s biggest stories, including the pandemic. Before arriving at NBC 4 New York, she worked as an afternoon weekday anchor for KTVT, the CBS-Owned station in Dallas/Fort Worth, for 5 years. She also delivered breaking news coverage.

In 2016, Avalos was on the ground during the fatal ambush of five Dallas police officers. She was also one of the first reporters on the police robot that helped bring down the suspect. Moreover, she provided coverage for the Amber Guyger lawsuit and provided nonstop coverage of the verdict and sentencing.

Before working for KTVT, Avalos worked for NBC 6/WTVJ in Miami as a multimedia journalist and general assignment reporter. While in Miami, she served as one of the first South Florida reporters to broadcast Trayvon Martin’s shooting and later travelled to Sanford, Florida, to broadcast the lawsuit of George Zimmerman.

Avalos kick-started her journalism career at News 12 The Bronx. There, she anchored nonstop broadcast of Hurricane Irene in 2011. Further, she assisted in the development of the pilot that would later become News 12 en Español. Born in El Salvador, she learned English as a second language while growing up in Miami.
