Kari developed her love of sports while growing up in Arizona, where she participated in almost every sport imaginable. Later, she would discover her love of storytelling and follow her heart to Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism.
Her most recent position was as a sports director in Bakersfield, California, where she was nominated for an Emmy and awarded a regional Edward R. Murrow for a report on a local athlete who triumphantly returned to cross-country running after a nearly deadly accident.
She also had the chance to host a frank discussion on racism and its effects on the neighborhood with seven illustrious head coaches.
Kari covered a wide range of high school sports while working as a sports reporter for WJAC in State College before moving to Bakersfield. She covered everything from Penn State athletics to minor-league baseball. She covered three NCAA Tournament runs, the Fiesta Bowl, the Big Ten Championships, and the Rose Bowl during that time.
Kari’s career has kind of followed a trend, going from Central Pennsylvania to the Central Valley of California to present Central Alabama. She may also state that she based her journey on the conviction that sports have a strong ability to unite us all and that she is ready to share the various sports-related stories that make up her newest community.
