During her career, Cook has won a number of accolades for her work in several categories, including feature reporting and craft achievement for reporting on deadline. For instance, she has received numerous first-place prizes from the Oregon Associated Press and the Oregon Association of Broadcasters.
Cook was recognized for her feature reporting in 2014 with a Western Regional Associated Press “Mark Twain” Award. Moreover, she won two Edward R. Murrow Awards, including for Excellence in Writing. Additionally, she has received over two dozen Emmy nominations for sports reporting, news writing, and an investigative series surrounding Portland gangs, guns, and prostitution. In 2011, she received a nomination for the Northwest Regional Emmy Sports Reporting Award. The Oregonian mentioned her as one of Portland’s Most Memorable Media Stars of All Time.
After graduating from college, Cook launched her TV News career in Southern Oregon, where she worked as the Klamath Falls Bureau Chief and weekend anchor for KDRV (ABC) in Medford. From Medford, she moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to serve KKTV (CBS) as a reporter. She reported mountain rescues, blizzards, and matters relevant to the area’s extensive military community.
Besides broadcasting, Cook serves as a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She places a high value on giving back to her neighborhood. In this capacity, she volunteers with her church and emcees a number of neighborhood fundraising events. She won a charitable dance competition with her performance of the Tango.
