Chris McGinness Career

McGinness works for KGW as a weekend morning meteorologist. He also covers transportation and environmental stories. Before coming to KGW, Chris worked as chief meteorologist at KOIN-TV. Chris joined the KGW team in May 2012.

As a joint traffic reporter for KXL radio and KGW, McGinness began working for KGW in 2012. He covered the morning and afternoon commutes.

In addition to anchoring the Saturday morning weather, his position at KGW has extended to include reporting on transportation and the environment, returning to his roots as a meteorologist.

Despite the humor, he always treasured the opportunity to compete in track and cross-country while donning the Penn State uniform.

He continues to periodically lace up his racing shoes, even after 20 years. He has happily never run leg 1 of the Hood to Coast Relay in his dozen attempts. Additionally, he has run nine marathons; a tenth has eluded him.

That will be caused by two young children and a constantly shifting schedule, but he is still hoping that he will soon complete another Portland Marathon; perhaps 2023 will be the year.

In 2001, he began his TV career. He traveled the Midwest, chasing tornadoes, blizzards, and floods. He moved back to Oregon after ten years spent in Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

As part of KGW’s Good Energy Series, you can see him producing meteorological and environmental stories. He covers challenges on our roadways as a transportation reporter as well. Some are grave, while others are not so grave.

They created the “Driving Me Crazy” series so that we could all share our woes. They all have something on the roadways that aggravates them, whether it be potholes or tailgaters.
