She was raised in Pike Road, a community outside of Montgomery, so she is familiar with Alabama. She is delighted to finally reside in Birmingham.
In the fifth grade, Mattie began her media career by hosting school announcements. Her undergraduate degree in news media came from the University of Alabama, where she studied. She covered local news for WVUA 23 in Tuscaloosa while she was an undergraduate, and she also worked on-air for Crimson Tide Productions, covering Alabama athletics. Additionally, Mattie had the chance to work as an intern on NBC’s TODAY Show for a semester.
She went back to her hometown after receiving her degree to serve as a reporter and stand-in anchor at WAKA in Montgomery. Some of her favorite stories are those that are community-based and emphasize education.
