Morgan Hightower started working as a journalist in Montgomery, Alabama, two days after receiving her degree from college. She is happy to be back in Alabama after over ten years and a few different occupations.
Morgan was a member of the team in Montgomery that established the ABC affiliate’s newsroom. She worked on every aspect of the broadcast, including producing, hosting, creating, writing, and editing all of her reports.
As a member of a small team, Morgan had the chance to cover a number of significant topics, most notably the fatal tornado outbreak in April 2011 and a federal corruption trial. She told the tales of numerous people who were reconstructing their lives, followed the recovery operations, and found misplaced FEMA funds.
Morgan left Montgomery for Greensboro, North Carolina, where she spent five years as a reporter for the CBS affiliate before being promoted to anchor.
She will always cherish the opportunity she had to cover the 70th anniversary of D-Day in Bedford, Virginia, even though she is pleased with the investigative work she accomplished monitoring public funds and holding the powerful accountable.
With scores of World War II veterans, Morgan traveled by bus while listening to their accounts of how they averted disaster. For its coverage of that special day, her station won an Emmy.
In Nashville, Tennessee, Morgan most recently held the positions of reporter and anchor. She covered politics, fraud, and crime. The tragic mass shootings at a church and the Antioch Waffle House will be the stories that stick with people.
On the days of the disasters, she served as an anchor for a number of hours. She then covered both stories for months, reporting on the police investigations and court trials.
