Hinton was involved with the University of Miami Relay for Life Planning Committee, Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society, and Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He also helped conduct research to determine the accuracy of hurricane forecast models and analyzed general forecast model accuracy for the South Florida climate.
In 2016, he furthered his studies at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science. In 2017, he obtained his Master’s of Professional Science in Atmospheric Sciences and Broadcast Meteorology.

While working in New Bern, Hinton delivered coverage of the historic Hurricane Florence, which destroyed the community of Eastern North Carolina. He also received an Emmy nomination in Technical Achievement at the 2020 Southeast Emmy Awards. Following his tenure in New Bern, he spent 4 years as a weekday morning meteorologist for TEGNA in Austin, Texas.
