Chamraz works as the primary news anchor of TMJ4’s weekday newscasts at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. In this role, he anchors TMJ4 News at 4 and 6 with Susan Kim and is the solo anchor of TMJ4 News at 5. Also, he is at the forefront of big breaking news coverage on TMJ4 and hosts community events like the Milwaukee Bucks championship celebration and the yearly Juneteenth Day parade.
Chamraz first walked into the TMJ4 newsroom as an intern in 1994. 30 years later, he now serves as the station’s primary news anchor. He returned to TMJ4 after reporting stints at TV stations in Madison, San Francisco, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Chicago. His work has appeared on 60 Minutes, the CBS Evening News, and Court TV. Moreover, it has prompted criminal investigations, the cleanup of illegal dumps, new state laws, reforms to the court system, and the dismissals of powerful public servants.
Chamraz has received some of the industry’s highest awards, including 11 regional Emmy Awards, 4 Milwaukee Press Club Awards, ten regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, and eight Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards. He has also been a finalist for a National Headliner Award twice, the Investigative Reporters and Editors Award, and the Batten Medal. In 2016, he and his team earned a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for the “Making the Milwaukee” documentary that tracked the building of the U.S.S. Milwaukee.
Chamraz’s 2014 report revealed that local school districts failed to do the necessary number of safety drills every year. Following his report, these schools were forced to alter their safety drill policies after they violated state law. In 2011, he shed light on problems with illegal day cares through his report, including dangerous practices that played a part in the deaths of children. As a result of this report, a state senate committee hearing was launched, which considered legislation to help protect children in day care.
