Crocker works for WBRC FOX6 as a co-anchor for the 6 and 9 p.m. newscasts. Before joining the station, Crocker worked for WIS-TV as an anchor. He joined the station in 2003.
Steve’s older brother Rob, who does jazz radio shows in the New York region, introduced him to broadcasting while they were growing up in Queens, New York, watching television news.
At WCLK radio in Atlanta, Steve started his broadcasting career while still a student at Morehouse College, where he graduated with a B.A. in Mass Communications. In the late 1980s, he worked as a producer and reporter for a number of Atlanta-area radio stations.
In 1990, he transitioned to television as a news writer for CNN, where he covered issues such as the fall of the Soviet Union, the Los Angeles riots, and the O.J. Simpson trial. As a stand-in anchor for CNN, Headline News, and CNN’s Airport channel, Steve also occasionally appeared.
Steve started working as a morning anchor and reporter for Dallas’ Fox station, KDFW-TV, in 1995. He relocated to WIS-TV in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1998 to anchor the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. news. Steve joined the WBRC/FOX6 staff in 2003 and has been happy to call Birmingham home ever since.
