Before joining the station in August 2020, Thornton worked as a news reporter for WALA Fox 10 News from October 2017 to August 2020. Prior to working for WALA Fox 10, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Spring Hill College from August to December 2019.

Earlier in his career, he worked as an Anchor and News Reporter at KLAF-TV (NBC) and KADN-TV (FOX) from February 2016 to September 2017. He also held multiple roles—News Director, Anchor, Multimedia Journalist (MMJ), and Producer—at WDUT-TV News From The Oaks at Dillard University in New Orleans from November 2013 to May 2014.

In 2013, Thornton began gaining newsroom experience as an Intern Reporter at WDSU-TV in the Greater New Orleans area, a role she held from May 2013 to May 2014. During that time, he also worked as a Production Assistant at WVUE-TV Fox 8 from August to November 2013.
