Auliʻi Cravalho is an American actress who debuted her acting career at the age of 16 as the voice of Moana in Disney’s Moana in 2016. She went on to star in NBC’s Rise in 2018, Netflix’s All Together Now in 2020, Darby and the Dead in 2022, Amazon Prime Video’s The Power in 2023, Disney Channel’s Hailey’s On It!, and Mean Girls musical in 2024. Cravalho will reprise her role as the voice of Moana in Moana 2, premiering in the United States on November 27, 2024.

Cravalho kickstarted her career at the age of 16 in 2016 voicing the titular role in the animated movie, Moana. She initially didn’t want to audition for the role since there were numerous other submissions that she felt she didn’t need to try. However, she was discovered by a talent agent in Oahu through a charity video contest, bringing her to Los Angeles to audition for the role. Rachel Sutton, the casting director, said that she was the last person to audition out of dozens of actresses.

In February 2017, Cravalho was announced as a cast member on NBC’s Rise. In May of that same year, she sang the national anthem at the National Memorial Day Concert. She was announced to reprise her voicing role in Moana in the first Hawaiian language–dubbed Disney film. She starred as Ariel in ABC’s live-action concert rendition of The Little Mermaid, The Little Mermaid Live! on November 5, 2019. The following year, she appeared in Netflix’s All Together Now.

2018 to present;

Twice, Cravalho served as the guest narrator for Disney’s Candlelight Processional at Walt Disney World in 2018 and 2021. Further, she was involved in Brando Crawford’s live classic play and screenplay reading series, Acting for a Cause, in 2020. There, she starred as Gwendolen Fairfax in The Importance of Being Earnest, Laertes in  Hamlet, Lady Catherine in Pride and Prejudice, and Jeannie Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Acting for a Cause collected money for non-profit charities like Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Cravalho was declared as the voice of Hailey in Hailey’s On It! on November 18, 2021. Moreover, she starred as Jos Cleary-Lopez in The Power and Janis ‘Imi’ike in Mean Girls. She was declared the executive producer of the upcoming live adaptation of Moana.

Moana follows the story of Moana, the daughter of a chief of the Polynesian island of Motunui, and his wife, Sina. She is tasked with reuniting a mystical relic with the goddess, Te Fiti, by the ocean. After decay impacts her land, she goes searching for a legendary demigod, Maui(voiced by Dwayne Johnson/The Rock), so that they can give Te Fiti back her relic and rescue her people. Besides the English version, she also reprised her role in the film’s Hawaiian-language version.

Moana 2

Cravalho will reprise her role as the voice of Moana in Moana 2, premiering in the United States on November 27, 2024. The sequel follows Moana as she journeys to the far seas of Oceania after receiving an abrupt call from her wayfinding ancestors three years after returning Te Fiti’s mystical relic. After forming her own crew, she tries to break the Nalo’s curse on the hidden island of Motufetu, which once linked the people of the ocean, facing old and new foes like the Kakamora and underworld goddess, Matangi.

Cravalho portrayed Janis ‘Imi’ike in Mean Girls in 2024. Janis is the friend of Cady and Damian. Janis and Damian introduced Cady to the multiple cliques, cautioning her to evade one known as the “Plastics,” consisting of the insecure gossiper Gretchen Wieners, unintelligent and bubbly Karen Shetty, and manipulative “Queen bee” Regina George. She convinces Cady to infiltrate the “Plastics.” Janis was previously friends with Regina but had a fallout when she outed her lesbian sexuality to the school..
