Developed by Leila Gerstein, the series is based on the novel dubbed the same by Alexis Schaitkin. The series follows the mysterious death of a young woman during a utopian Caribbean vacation. Her death causes a distressing ripple effect that ultimately pulls her surviving sister into a savage pursuit of the truth.

The series is narrated through various timelines and viewpoints as it tackles the story behind the disappearance and death of the girl. Originally, Victoria Pedretti was to play the lead as Emily, however, she left the series citing creative differences.
