Before her tenure at Live 5 News, Harris worked for WBTV as an investigative intern in Charlotte, North Carolina. She also worked for the Committee on Arrangements for the 2020 Republican National Convention as a communication intern. Moreover, she worked as an editorial intern at Lake Norman Publications in Davidson, North Carolina.
One of Harris’s interesting assignments was when she was still in university, where she created a podcast for one of her classes about squatters in my hometown. The Squatters had trespassed on the mayor of Davidson’s parents’ house and refused to leave. She interviewed the mayor and a local real estate agent about their perspective, and as a result, the story won the “Best Broadcast Journalism Story” departmental award from the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication. This sparked her passion for investigative journalism.
Harris believes true journalism strikes the right balance between maintaining the public’s trust, telling a compelling story, and sticking to the facts. In this capacity, a good news reporter possesses all these qualities. She loves the Lowcountry, but specifically for the charm, class, and food.
