Sorensen obtained a Mid-Atlantic Emmy Features Reporter for Human Interest Stories Award for her Kidsburgh reports. For example, she did a story about a colorful crossing guard, children in “A Musical Christmas Carol” and an Autistic boy who learned speaking via the assistance of a special iPad speaking device. Her story went viral online and has earned over 2 million views.
Sorensen has also attained an Edward R. Murrow award for her reports and an Associated Press Award for her work as host of Pittsburgh Today Live. She arrived in Pittsburgh from Dallas where she worked as an anchor and reporter. Since she was a child, she learned dancing and has perfromed with dance companies for a decade. In 2013, she did a solo performance at the Byham Theater alongside Bodiography Contemporary Ballet company’s performance.
