Burger broadcasted Tom Brady as he led the Bucs to a Super Bowl championship title, the Rays journey to a World Series, the Lightning making three straight trips to the Stanley Cup Finals, and much more. Along the way, the Florida Association of Broadcast Journalists awarded Kyle the title of Sportscaster of the Year in both 2020 and 2021.
Burger worked for several years at WVTM-TV in Birmingham and WAAY-TV in Huntsville before moving to Tampa Bay. He had the good fortune to accompany the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers on their travels, covering a great deal of major college football games. He was present on the field for two of the most memorable college football plays in history: Tua Tagovailoa’s “2nd & 26” throw that gave the Crimson Tide another national championship and Auburn’s “Kick Six” versus Alabama.
During his time in Birmingham, Burger received multiple accolades from the Alabama Broadcasters Association and received nominations for multiple Emmys for his sports reporting. Working at WMBB-TV in Panama City, Florida, in 2006, Kyle also had the chance to cover the Florida Gators’ push for a national championship. His first on-air position was at Dalton, Georgia’s WDNN-TV.
