During an online event called GRACE Speaks, Moritz talked about her struggles with alcohol and recovery. She recalled that she had sworn to never put her family through the heartache that comes with addiction when she was a teenager, after she grew up with an alcoholic father.
Despite the pledge, she found herself struggling with alcoholism, reaching an all-time low when her son, deterred by the smell of alcohol on her breath, rejected her congratulations after winning a basketball game. After years of binge drinking on evenings and weekends, she decided to seek help and joined a residential treatment program. Before her recovery, she used to go to work hangover. She believes that sobriety has made her a more compassionate journalist, helping her discover useful core strengths in today’s challenging times.
GRACE Speaks is a program of In the Name of GRACE (Giving Recovering Addicts a Chance to Evolve), which is designed to help raise funds and awareness for an international addiction recovery program.
