Beil got his start in journalism at the University of Hawaii, where he worked on the student paper and the campus radio station. He reported on everything throughout his years in the islands, including the play-by-play of my favorite UH Warriors and exploding volcanoes.

Bail arrived in Northern California barely in time to experience the 1989 earthquake; he was actually traveling through the Caldecott Tunnel when the earthquake struck.

He left KTVU after serving there for 5 and a half years to join ESPN, where he hosted SportsCenter for the following six years with people like Dan Patrick, Keith Olbermann, and Robin Roberts.

The reason he ever left national television to go back to local television is a question that is frequently asked, but for him, it was all about location and lifestyle. So he gladly came back to the Bay Area in 2001 to work for ABC7 News.
